Opshops are charity shops set up by the Diocese of Carlisle to serve the communities in Cumbria.
The Penrith shop is on Angel Lane in the centre of town and is linked with Churches Together in Penrith. You can buy good quality clothes, household goods, electricals, books, DVD’s, and wool at a low price. You’ll also get a warm welcome and there are comfy chairs if you want a sit down because it more than a charity shop.
The Opshop is a place where people are made welcome and listened to. Where the God in each of us is recognised. It’s a place where Christians from different churches get to know each other and serve their local community together. It’s a place where Christians, people of other faiths or no faith come together. Volunteers do all the usual charity shop jobs of hanging and steaming clothes and sorting bric à brac. Volunteers also make customers welcome, chat to people and buddy any volunteers who need to build up their confidence or skills.
Prayers are held at Penrith Opshop each month to pray for the work of the shop and the community. Penrith Opshop is currently open Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 10:30 to 4pm. More volunteers are needed so that the Opshop can be open Monday to Saturday and extend the support it offers.
